Kathmandu, 23 March: Home Minister Krishna Prasad Shitaula was summoned to the Election Commission and was told to reinforce security, especially in the terai.
Shitaula was summoned to the commission as electoral violence continued Sunday.
Major parties said Maoists disturbed their meetings or were told to leave the districts in Rolpa, Baitadi and Nawalparasi; Maoists left their camps under UN watch and participated in electioneering on behalf of friends against the spirit of a peace treaty.
“Our friends are being killed .We will not run away; we’ll not run away; we’ll stay here; we’ll die here. We will accept a free, fair and impartial verdict,” Maoist Chairman Prachanda told reporters said SUnday.
Prachanda said six activists were killed after formal election campaign began; but other parties charge Maoists of widespread disturbances of their public meetings.
“Our workers continue to be killed. almost every day,” Prachanda said.
Prachanda charged CPN-CML’s feet were shaking after USA ordered it not to go for an electoral adjustment with CPN (Maoist); two main communist parties continue to exchange slurs even 19 days ahead of Nepal’s first controversial constituent assembly elections.
“Final destination of Maoist is the CPN-UML,” Nepal said. “Maoists are dreaming of winning elections.”
Seven ruling parties- after a long interval- will hold a summit meeting Monday to discuss elections, including violence.
“We’re concerned,” Prachanda said.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and Chairman Prachanda reviewed elections, including continued violence during electioneering Sunday.
