By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 3 March: Nepal Army has become suspicious with the accord between government and terai parties.
Two generals held a long discussion on articles two and four of the agreement with prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala Friday.
Article two mentions Madesh people putting them above Nepali people; the generals raised objections.
They said other words could have been used.
Its learnt the generals also raised objections to the group entry of Madesh and other groups to give the Nepal Army a ‘national character’ through inclusiveness and proportionality.
The generals said Nepal Army was always a national army with unification and war against the British.
“Group entry’ will make it difficult to give the army to promote international standard.
Recruits fulfilling minimum requirements for entry into the army will bel deprived opportunities through group recruitment on recommendation of political parties.
The generals asked the prime minister to be clear on these matters.
Defects in documents signed by the prime minister will drag the country into difficulties.
Koirala had a long telephonic conversation with the army chief soon after the generals left.
The agreement has stirred widespread dissatisfaction in the ruling seven-party alliance as well.
Differences have surfaced in the CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist).
CPN-UML standing committee member Jhalanath Khanal in a public comment said,” This agreement has been signed under a situation of compulsion. Nepal has never faced such a situation.”

Goit again calls for independence
Kathmandu, 3 March: Jay Krishna Goit Friday again raised the battle cry for the independence of Terai from the Himalayan kingdom, Bihar Times reports.
He ruled out talks with the Seven Party Alliance government and also refused to take part in the election for the Constituent Assembly to be schedule on April 10.
“Terai is a separate, independent country,” he told a private channel Avenues Television, on Friday night.
Appearing for the first time on any television channel he went on to say that “Nepal has no control over it. If Nepalis want to stay there, they have to take the permission of the Terai government. If Indians want to work there, they have to get a work permit from the government.”
“Till Terai is freed, our struggle will continue,” Goit said.
He said the people of Terai had voted in several elections held by kings as well as the parties but never got any rights. Goit declared that Constituent Assembly election would not be held in Terai.Goit hit out at India, accusing it of helping the Maoists and repressing Terai.
“When there was an Interpol red corner notice for the capture of Prachanda and the Maoists were declared a terrorist organisation, he was in New Delhi where the Indian government brokered a deal between the Maoists and Nepal’s opposition parties. Prachanda is the biggest lackey of India as well as the biggest monarchist in Nepal,” he said.
