Dr Upendra Debkota, family abandon home

Kathmandu, 8 Aug: Dr Upendra Debkota and his family have abandoned their home after the noted neurosurgeon paid a ransom of Rs 13 million to abductors for the release of daughter Megha, Naya Patrika reports..
Police don’t know their whereabouts.
The house is completely deserted and the doctor hasn’t reported for work at the hospital.

PM Koirala calls for front against Maoists

Kathmandu, 8 Aug: Congress President and Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala is efforting to form a ‘broad democratic front’ against Maoists to prevent the radical communists from forming a government, Parsuram Kafle reports in Friday’s edition of Naya Patrika.
He called for such a front in meetings with leaders of small parties in the CA.
Koirala Thursday held consultations with RJP Chairman Surya Bahadur Thapa, Janamorcha Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC, CHure Bhavar Chairman Keshab Mainali and Nepal Paribar Dal Chairman Ek Nath Dhakal.
Koirala claimed a Maoist-led government won’t last for more than two months.
Koirala, according to Baluwatar sources, said,” Maoists have sold a lot of dreams; the process of their government fall will start after pledges can’t be fulfilled.”
“Prachanda should quit the chairmanship of PLA; YCL and paralled government should be disbanded. Seized assets should be returned,” Chure Bhavar Chairman said quoting Koirala.
Maoaists are the largest party in the CA.

Chinese embassy under heavy protection

Kathmandu, 8 Aug: .The Chinese embassy in Nepal, bordering Tibet, was protected by unarmed police but wielding sticks Friday hours before the opening of the Beijing Olympics.
The visa section in another section of the town was also protected to keep off protesting Tibetans in the capital.
Police believe many Tibetans from India have come to the Nepalese capital for daily anti-China protests since March.
Kathmandu local administration declared the areas around the embassy and the visa section prohibited banning protests.
Nearly 500 protesting Tibetans were arrested and later released Wednesday in the outskirts of the city.
Tibetans intrucks chanted “China chor desh chod [Chinese crooks leave the country] as they attempted to enter the city from the outskirts, an eyewitness said.
