Miss Nepal contest again postponed
Kathmandu, 20 Aug: Miss Nepal 2008 contest was postponed for the second time Tuesday by organizers amid protests mainly from Maoist-affiliated groups.
Groups linked with CPN-UML also opposed the contest.
Contestants met Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda personally and sought his intervention this week to go ahead with the pageant.

Airport VIP lounge only for ambassadors
Kathmandu, 20 Aug: A letter has been sent to all embassies telling them the VIP lounge at the airport will be opened henceforth for ambassadors only when they arrive to take up assignment and leave on completion of their tour, Janaastha reports.
Foreign diplomats were abusing the facility and the facility was sought even for lower level officials.

Dollar gains
Kathmandu, 20 Aug: The US dollar touched a new high in the money market Wednesday.
Nepal Rashtra Bank fixed the selling rate of one dollar at Rs 70.10 and buying rate at Rs 69.50.

Army again deployed in inner circle for PM’s security

Kathmandu, 20 Aug: The PLA has been removed by the government from the inner circle security ring of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal from Tuesday following a controversy, reports Rajdhanai.
The PLA was deployed Friday following a party decision.
Nepal Army contingent was deployed in the inner security ring from Tuesday.
The police will now lead the prime minister’s escort and the army contingent will be directly the prime minister’s car; PLA contingent will be behind the army contingent.
Maoists have decided the PLA will be deployed in the inner circle at the prime minister’s official residence and a contingent led by an army colonel will be placed in the outer circle.

CPN-UML to take action against Pradip Nepal
Kathmandu, 20 Aug: CPN-UML general Secretary Jhalanath Khanal will propose action against standing committee member Pradip Nepal next week at the party central committee meeting 20 August, Janaastha reports.
Khanal gave this assurance at an informal meeting of the central members last Wednesday.
Pradip Nepal participated in the Beijing Olympics even after resigning as education minister embarrassing the party.
