Transport strike ends bringing relief
Kathmandu, 17 Aug: A weeklong east Nepal transport strike that paralyzed life in the region and caused millions of rupees loss to farmers who couldn’t take produce to markets ended Sunday with the movement of vehicles along highways.
Transport workers and entrepreneurs reached a six-point accord with government Saturday ending the crippling strike provoked by the murder of truck driver by dacoits.
Government agreed to compensate the family of the driver one million rupees along with free education of children.
Government also promised additional security along highways for vehicular movement.

Forum demands honourable representation in govt.

Kathmandu, 17 Aug: MJF leader BP Yadav said his party may stay out of government without ‘honourable’ representation in government, published reports said. Sunday.
“If there’s no respectable position fur us, we’ll support the government from outside.Another MJF leader Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar said,” We have staked claim to deputy prime minister as well as one out of the home, foreign affairs and communications ministries.”
There was no agreement of power-sharing Saturday and discussions will continue Sunday.
The three-party alliance is trying to assemble a government before Monday’s swearing-in of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.
Earlier, ministries of communication, agriculture, industries of commerce and supplies, child welfare and social welfare were set aside for MJF.
The three parties will discuss bifurcating ministries and whether to appoint a deputy prime minister or not Sunday to resolve differences on government sharing.
A 24-member council of ministry is being discussed.
NSP (D) leader Rajendra Mahoto said his party won’t join government.
The alliance has set aside four ministries for four fringe parties likely to join government.

New registration of Bhutanese refugees

Kathmandu, 17 Aug: Registration of Bhutanese refugees left out in earlier counts will begin Monday, Annapurna Post reports from Damak.
Nearly 1,500 persons who have newly arrived from Bhutan and others who haven’t received refugee status have applied.
Officials from UNHCR and home ministry have been appointed for registration.
Altogether 3,200 of 108,000 refugees in seven camps in Morang and Jhapa have been resettled mainly in USA and New Zealand in the last six months.

IGP Om Bikram Rana reaches superannuation age
Kathmandu, 17 Aug: Nepal Police IGP On Bikram Rana, five AIGs and three DIGS have will complete superannuation age 17 October, Kantipur reports.
Nepal Police will get new leadership if government doesn’t extend their tenure.
The police officers have been running from pillar to post to get their tenure extended.

Biggest security deployment for PM
Kathmandu, 17 Aug: Nepal Army has designated a company led by Lt Col Arun Pal for the security of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, The Himalayan Times reports.
A major normally commands a company but Lt Col Pal , who is currently at the Directorate of Signals, will lead the company of 150 army personnel for the New PM’s security.
According to NA Spokesman Maj Gen Ramindra Chhetri, currently a team of around 80 army personnel ledby a major has been deployed for the security of the outgoing prime minister.
Spokesman for the Home Ministry Mod Raj Dotel said a special combination of four security forces—NA, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and National Investigation Department—would be deployed for the prime minister’s security.
“NA will lead the team,” Dotel said.
People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has been deployed for the security of the newly elected prime minister, Rajdhani reports.
NA has started leading the convoy of the prime minister followed from behind by PLA fighters in two vehicles and two escort vehicles of Nepal Police escort.
When Koirala was prime minister, the army led the escort and a 70-man contingent of Nepal Police led by DSP Gopal Rayamajhi followed the government chief in the rear.
It is uncertain whether PLA fighters will be deployed for the security of the newly elected prime minister.

Three parties finalizing government teams
Kathmandu, 17 Aug: Central committees of CPN (Maoist), CPN-UML and MJF are meeting later Sunday to finalize their government teams.
MJF has threatened to stay from government ‘without honourable representation’.
A 24-member council of minister is expected o be formed Monday.
