Deuba threatens to launch movement against people’s war

Kathmandu, 26 Oct: Sher Bahadur Deuba Sunday threatened to launch a movement against Maoist people’s war one day after the Nepali Congress party and its president Girija Prasad Koirala launched a jihad against Maoists.
The former prime minister and second in command in the party said accused Maoists trying to impose a totalitarian system.
Deuba issued the threat in Biratnagar the hometown of Koirala from where the party launched what it called an awareness campaign.
Nepali Congress and Maoists have fallen out after the latter drubbed Congress in the 10 April elections and captured state power immediately after emerging from the jungle and India.
Koirala has now put Premier Prachanda and former King Gyanendra on the same pedestal after losing elections and government control.
Koirala never realized ideological differences between his party and CPN (Maoist) while bringing the former rebels into the political mainstream.
He even ignored criticism from senior leaders who accused Koirala of taking up a Maoist agenda.
The new Congress fight for democracy –should it gain momentum--will now certainly delay the drafting of a constitution.

Kathina robes presented on behalf of Thai king


Kathmandu, 26 Oct: On behalf of Thai King Bhumibol, kathinn robes were presented to Buddhist monks at Sirikitti monastery in Kirtipur Friday.
The robes were presented by a senior Thai delegation led by former deputy prime minister Dr Surakiart Sathirathi.
