Name change controversy in CPN (Maoist) storm in tea cup: Baburam Bhattarai

Kathmandu, 21 Oct: Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai dismissed Tuesday a controversy in the CPN (Maoist) on removing the Maoist suffix as a storm in a tea cup..
“The comments are just a storm in a tea cup,” Dr Bhattarai told party mouthpiece Janadesh.
A faction led by Mohan Baidya Kiran charged there’s a danger of revisionism in the radical party.
Dr Bhattarai sided with Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda who suggested removing the suffix from the party’s name.
Kiran, at the last central committee meeting, presented an alternate proposal to Prachanda’s concept of democratic republic; Baidya is pushing a people’s republic.
Bhattarai said the November national meet. solidly back Prachanda.
“Prachanda’s concept is the mainstream revolutionary concept, The party is moving ahead for a democratic republic in a new way to establish a people’s oriented and independent republic through the constitution. There’s nobody to effectively challenge this concept,” Bhattarai said.

Transfers in army

Kathmandu, 21 Oct: Government Monday transferred senior generals of Nepal Army, Annapurna Post reports.
Nepal Bhusan Chand has been moved to the Office of the Adjutent Generral while Netra Thapa has been shifted to central region headquarters; Dambar Singh Gurung has ben transferred to the far-western region headquarters, Pradip Jung Thapa to the mid-west regional headquarters while Daman Ghale has been brought to army headquarters.
Ananta Thebe has been transferred to the national security council secretariat.

Kathmanduu, 21 Oct: The capital’s street vendors demanding alternative space clashed with police in front on the municipal corporation.
Home Minister Bamdeb Gautam cleared the streets by removing them.

Nepal, India trade treaty is being amended

Kathmandu, 21 Oct: Some articles of the 1996 Nepal, India treaty is being amended following a meeting of commerce secretaries in New Delhi Monday, Annapurna Post reports.
This was stated by Commerce Secretary Purusottam Ojha.
Commerce ministers will sign the amendments after approval by the cabinet.
A petrol pipeline is also being laid between Raxaul and Amlekhjung.

New Delhi has agreed to lift the export ban on Nepali garments exports India and waive duty of steel goods export to Nepal.
