Phulpati being celebrated Monday

Kathmandu, 6 Oct: Phulpati is being celebrated Monday on the seventh day of dasain.
Tika is on Thursday.
Former King Gyanendra is offering tika to the people.
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav is also offering tika to desirous persons.

Samita Sakya new Kathmandu Kumari

Kathmandu, 6 Oct: Samita Sakya is being installed Kathmandu’s new Kumari Tuesday on Maha Asthami.
She replaces Preeti Sakya, 11.
The Living Goddess was selected by a committee comprising main priest of Taleju temple, head astrologer Pancha Buddha Naike and caretaker of Kumari.
Royal priests selected the Kumari before declaration of a republic.
Samita hails from Itumbahal.
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav offered beetle nut and flowers to the new Living Goddess to confirm her appointment.

Govt hikes pay of Maoist combatants

Kathmandu, 6 Oct: The Maoist-led government Sunday hiked by 66 percent monthly pay pf Maoist combatants by Rs 2,000.
Each combatant will now receive a monthly allowance of Rs 5,000.
A cabinet meeting hiked the monthly salary.

Ram Chandra Paudel declares candidacy for leadership of Congress parliamentary party

Kathmandu, 6 Oct: Ram Chandra Paudel Sunday declared candidacy for the leadership of Nepali Congress parliamentary party.
Former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is the main contender to contest the leadership should party President Girija Prasad Koirala decide not to contest.
Paudel claimed he will be elected with an overwhelming majority.
Congres is the main opposition in the CA and Nepal’s second largest political party.
Paudel is party vice-president.
Koirala earlier selected Deuba to head meetings in his absenmc.

Differences in government

Kathmandu, 6 Oct: A coordination committee to direct the functioning of government couldn’t be formed Sunday, Rajdhani reports.
A cabinet meeting extended for three hours because of differences in the governing parties.
CPN-UML proposed the name of former general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal to head the committee.
Other parties suggested chairmanship should be held on rotation basis.

Three Nepalis escape

Kathmandu, 6 Oct: Three Nepalis suspected for attempted murder and deported to Nepal escaped whiled transiting through New Delhi Sunday, Naya Patrika reports.
Tek Jung Limbu, Umid Pakhrin and Debi Bahadur Gurung slipped out of a hotel where they were lodged.
Kathmandu district court has issued arrest warrants.
