Mohan Baidya Kiran warns repetition of Chile, Indonesia in Nepal; urges revolt for people’s republic
By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 22 Nov: Hard-line CPN (Maoist) Organization Chief Mohan Baidya Kiran warned a Chile or an Indonesia will be repeated in Nepal and called for an immediate enforcement of a had-line communist people’s republic through revolt.
Nearly 1,200 national delegates split into 21 groups Saturday and began discussing in camera Saturday Kiran’s proposal.
A separate group is discussing PLA integration into Nepal Army whose mass incorporation in state security agencies is opposed not only by main opposition Nepali Congress but also by coalition partners of the CPN (Maoist).
An alternative moderate proposal of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda proposes a transitional republic to consolidate the gains through the overthrow of monarchy in April 2005 and the declaration of a republic by the CA this year.
Kiran warned without declaration and adoption of ‘revisionist tendencies’ Chile and Indonesia will repeat itself even after Maoists won the 10 April CA elections leading to the formation of a Maoist-led government.
The Allende left government was toppled by Pinochet and the military crushed a communist movement in Indonesia.
The groups will assemble for a plenary session Sunday to decide whether to opt for Kiran’s or Prachanda’s proposal.
The inconclusive central committee meeting referred the the ‘great debate’ in the party Friday to the national meet.
Addressing the meet Friday, Prachanda said efforts by ‘enemies’ to ‘split and weaken’ the party won’t succeed while calling for ‘corrections’ of ‘mistakes and weaknesses’.
“Our party is moving ahead very strangely’” Prachanda said and added,” Right now, it looks like the ship is sinking.”
Prachanda championed a transitional federal democratic republic without which a constitution can’t be drafted and the PLA won’t be integrated in the Nepal Army.
Opinion was equally divided in the 35-memebr central commitee.
