Nepal, India discuss tarai insurgency during security talks

Kathmandu, 2 Nov: Nepal has drawn India’s attention to the criminal activities conducted by underground armed and active groups in the tarai from Indian soil, Anil Giri reports in Annapurna Post.
Security talks concluded Saturday in New Delhi; home secretaries of both countries participated.
Home Secretary Gobinda Prasad Kusum told Annapurna Post over telephone from New Delhi,” They commit the crime in Nepal and go to India to hide; crimes are committed in India and they come to Nepal to hide. Two countries have agreed to curb such crimes.’
Nepal also proposed border security, cross-border crimes and upgrading capability of security agencies.
India brought up the security of Indian aircraft flying out of Nepal.
Nepal requested India to help curb the circulation of fake Indian currency in Nepal and informed fake counterfeit Rs 1,000 currency notes have begun to surface in Nepal.
Its source should be traced, Nepal suggested.
Press and Information Bureau from New Delhi said India offered support and cooperation to train and strengthen Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and set up a Nepal Police Academy.
The Nepali side condemned the recent bloody Assam bomb blast killing more than five dozen people while expressing solidarity to fight terrorism.
Two sides discussed institutionalizing mechanism for regular meetings of border district coordination committees and exchange of operational information between SSB and counterpart Nepali agencies.
