TMLP opts for opposition status

Kathmandu, 12 Nov: The Terai Madesh Loktanrik Party (TMLP) Tuesday decided to stay in the opposition after earlier supporting the Maoist-led government and announced protests against the government, the party said.
This was decided by a meeting chaired by party Chairman Mahanta Thakur.
The party accused the government of paying only lip-service to talks with rebel groups pushing for autonomy in the south bordering India.
The party is the second biggest terai party after MJP which is in government; the TMLP is the fifth party in the CA as well.

Maoist revolt in Dhanusha

Kathmandu, 12 Nov: In a revolt in the CPN (Maoist), 29 Dhanusha district members, including district in-charge, Roshan Janakpuri resigned Tuesday protesting party what was called groupism and recent government appointments.
They vowed to continue struggle within the party.
They decried the tussle between former minister Matrika Prasad Yadav and Prabhu Shah.

Kiran, Dibakar resign

Kathmandu, 12 Nov: Mohan Biadya Kiran and Post Bahadur Bogati Dibakar have resigned from the party political appointment committee expressing dissatisfaction with recent government political appointments, Rajdhani reports.
They charged Tuesday wrong people were appointed without adequate homework; ministers Krishna Bahaur Mahara and Deb Gurung were present at the meeting.
Prime Minister Prachanda heads the committee which also includes Dr Baburam Bhattarai.

Govt. revives Rs 1million constituency development fund

Kathmandu, 12 Nov: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda Tuesday announced the revival of the controversial one million rupee fund to placate 601 constituency assembly (CA) members.
There was no provision for the Rs 601 million fund in the annual budget 2008/09 approved by a majority vote by the CA Tuesday.
The fund was discontinued by previous government after protests.
Assembly members can invent the money in development work of constituencies through the district development committees at discretion; Rs 100,000 has been set aside for assembly members for management of the fund.

No talks with terai rebels until Bamdeb Gautam remains minister: Matrika Prasad Yadav

Kathmandu, 12 Nov: Maoist leader Matrika Prasad Yadav said Tuesday talks with armed rebel groups in teari won’t be held until Bamdeb Gautam continues to be minister, Annapurna Post reports.
‘Government is only spreading rumours of talks,” Yadav said.
He said one government negotiator is an Indian citizen [Ram Chandra Jha]
and home minister Gautam is against talks.
Yadav said people now wearing dhotis have turned patriots
and those donning caps are anti-nationals.
“Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai talked of changing party name in USA to please foreigners
; this isn’t acceptable,” he said.
