Parliamentary panel to monitor Maoist pledge
Kathmandu, 20 Jan: A 11-member parliamentary commitment monitoring special committee was formed Monday night to oversee implementation of the nine-point Maoist-Nepali Congress.
The committee was formed before the fourth session of parliament was prorogued.
Main opposition Nepali Congress has hinged its cooperation with government to the implementation of the pledge.

The delayed meeting of Unified CPN (Maoist) meets Tuesday
Kathmandu, 20 Jan: The first delayed central committee meeting of the Unified CPN (Maoist) is being held later Tuesday afternoon.
The party secretariat began meeting Tuesday morning for the third consecutive day to out differences on sharing important party positions between leaders of the CPN (Maoist) and CPN (Unity Center/Mashal).
The central committee will endorse the decision of the secretariat.

444 police inspectors transferred
Kathmandu, 20 Jan: Nepal Police Sunday transferred 444 police inspectors.
The mass transfers in police coincide with planned transfers of 5,000 government officials by the Maoist-led government.

Third person suspected for involvement of woman journalist arrested
Kathmandu, 20 Jan: Bimalesh Jha of Janakpur was arrested Monday for suspected involvement in murder of woman journalist Uma Singh.
Jha is the third man to be arrested for suspected murder that has been universally condemned.
Earlier Nemlal Paswan of Terai Ekta Parishad and Maoist activist Sravan Yadav were arrested.
Jha was arrested as he was distributing statements of the Parishad claiming responsibility for the murder.
Paswan has been transferred to the capital from Dhanusha to treat bullet injuries sustained while police arrested him Sunday.

TU to reopen Wednesday
Kathmandu, 20 Jan: Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal’s oldest will reopen Wednesday after closure of 18 days.
Management closed the university after violent strike by local Kirtipur residents demanding return and compensation of assets nationalized to launch the university.
Locals are demanding compensation at current market prices.
Locals have come to an agreement with the university.

China asked to release three Maoists
Kathmandu, 20 Jan: Government has written to China asking Beijing to release three Maoists jailed in Lhasa, Kantipur reports.
The letter was handed by PM Prachand and Maoist leaders Monday to the Chinese ambassador.
Hiralal Shrestha, Gyalzen Tamang and Chyangda Tamang are serving various prison sentences.

Permission for another telecom company
Kathmandu, 20 Jan: Foreigners have received permission to launch a new telecom firm in partnership with a nepali firm, Naya Patrika reports.
Investors from Cyprus and Switzerland have received permission to launch the company with Nepal’s First Republic Holding Pvt Ltd.
The Nepali company will have 24 percent minority share in the company.

Chairman Subash Nemwang stops live broadcast of CA sessions
Kathmandu, 20 Jan; CA Chairman Subash Nemwang has intervened to stop live broadcast of CA sessions by an NGO, Annapurna Post reports.
Nemwang ordered Acting General Secretary Manohar Prasad Bhattarai to stop such broadcasts.
The report first appeared in the print media.
