Army chief furnishing written explanation

Kathmandu, 21 April: Army Chief Gen Rukmangud Katawal is submitting a written reply to the defence ministry Tuesday demand for an explanation for defying government directives and decisions triggering a crisis,
Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said the chief will be sacked if the reply isn’t satisfactory.
The army chief has also been charged for not helping the peace process and politicking.
A Maoist secretariat meeting Tuesday morning supported the Maoist action.
But main opposition Nepali Congress delegation led by Acting President Sushil Koirala met President Ram BaranYadav and asked him to intervene on behalf of the army chief.
Ailing party President Girija Prasad Koirala was absent.
Nepali Congress Monday decided to boycott parliament indefinitely and stood behind the beleaguered chief charging Maoists for attempting to destroy the army structure.
Parliamentis scheduled to meet Tuesday afternoon.
Congress has also called a meeting of all parties, excluding Maoists, to discuss the crisis Tuesday.

One killed in police firing, other details
Kathmandu, 21 April: One person was killed in a police firing in Simara Monday when police tried to control an irate mob Monday.
The mob set fire to three trippers after a child was overrun and killed.
Two persons were killed, including a child, in Siraha during wedding celebrations overnight.
