Kathmandu, 19 April: Two brothers were killed Saturday in an explosion of a abandoned bomb in a jungle in Gulmi where they had gone foraging.
Bam Bahadur and Hom Bahadur BK died while they played with an abandoned bomb in a jungle near their home.
Landmines haven’t been completely de-mined and bombs have been abandoned during the 10-year Maoist people’s war killing dozens even after the restoration of peace.

Superannuation in army after 30 years of service

Kathmandu, 19 April: Government is doing homework to superannuate army personnel after 30 years of service, Rajdhani reports.
Government is preparing to retire personnel with long years of service even while supreme court overturned a government decision to terminate services of eight brigadier generals.
Defence ministry is amending a military act to enforce the decision.
It takes 35 years for an army officer to become army chief after entering service.
Army is dissatisfied.
No such provision exists in any country.
“Such rule won’t be acceptable to the army because it’s impractical. This will create shortage of trained personnel in the army,” an official said.
There are 10 officer ranks in the army while there are only seven ranks in Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.
Nepal Army has told government the new law must be approved by parliament.
“UN foreseen development will take place in Nepal if the decision is implemented,” warned retired Brig Gen Keshar Bahadur Bhandari.
Age of superannuation is being reduced from 30 to 27years in Nepal police, Rajdhani reports.
“This is an attempt of Maoists to capture security agencies in the name of providing employment to youth and able,” said Deshantar in a headline.

Maoist-led govt. appoints younger brother of Jhalanath Khanal to Social Welfare Council

Kathmandu, 19 April: Dataram Khanal, younger brother of CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal has been reappointed Vice-Chairman of Social Welfare Council from where he was evicted by the government recently on charge of irregularities, Deshantar reports.
The Maoists oversee the work of the council.
Dataram was appointed immediately after the CPN-UML chairman said his party will continue in government.
The younger Khanal was sacked by the Maoist-led government.

Min Bahadur Rayamajhi to be chief justice

Kathmandu, 19 April: Senior-most supreme court judge Min Bahadur Rayamajhi will be appointed chief justice to succeed Kedar Prasad Giri who is retiring, Nepal Samacharpatra reports.
The newspaper quoted Giri as saying Rayamajhi will be his successor.
