Prohibitory order issued in Sunsari

Kathmandu, 18 April: Sunsri district administration Saturday issued prohibitory orders along highways in the terai district where victims of last year’s Kosi river floods have been demanding compensation.
A ban of strikes and demonstrations aims to restore movement of vehicles disturbed since 10 days.

Chairman Subash Nemwang asks for conclusions within three days

Kathmandu, 18 April: CA Chairman Subash Nemwang Saturday asked chairmen of 11 subject committees of the assembly and 24 party whips to submit conclusions of public opinion gathered for drafting a constitution.
The process has been delayed; a preliminary draft was to be submitted 23 April for discussion within 23 April to the CA.
There’s no agreement between major political parties on even a form of government—presidential or parliamentary.
Maoist hardliners want to impose a communist system.
Committees that visited districts received suggestions from 500,000 people.
CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal called for cooperation between political parties to draft a constitution within the May 1010 deadline amid concerns the constitution may not be drafted within the deadline.
Khanal left for China Saturday leading a five-member party delegation.
Even if a constitution is drafted, it looks increasingly likely the basic law will be imposed by political parties without popular participation.
Present ruling parties drafted the 1990 constitution that has been thrown in the dustbin.
Ruling parties are attempting to create an impression then King Birendra gifted the 1990 constitution.
Chairman of the constitution drafting committee Madhav Kumar Nepal, defeated from two constituencies in the 10 April 2008 CA elections, also helped draft the constitution.

Foreign minister Upendra Yadav returns

Kathmandu, 18 April: Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav returned home Saturday after visits of China and Indonesia.
He didn’t visit North Korea as originally expected.
Yadav paved the way for PM Prachanda’s China visit in May.
