Maoist ministers told to vacate ministers’ quarter

Kathmandu, 20 May: After Acting Prime Minister Prachanda Tuesday started vacating Baluwatar, the official residence of the government chief, Maoist ministers in the caretaker government were also asked by the party to vacate the ministers’ quarter in Pulchowk.
Government formation has been delayed by Maoist obstruction of parliament for more than two weeks as Madhav Kumar Nepal waits to from a majority government with the support of at least 350 lawmakers of the 601-member parliament.
Maoists are demanding a parliamentary discussion on a party resolution of what they call an unconstitutional move of President Dr Ram Baran Yadav asking Army Chief Gen Rukmangud Katawal to continue while only Maoists in government unilaterally sacked him four months before the end of his tenure.
The discussion can create a crisis in political parties, especially CPN-UML, that have put together an alternative government.
While opposing the dismissal of Katawal, CPN-UML said the ceremonial president acted unconstitutionally in asking the army chief to continue.
Parliament is scheduled to meet again Wednesday afternoon.
Maoists have said the present stalemate has been created by an army and presidential coup.
The Maoist move triggered a political crisis and a political stalemate amid charges the extreme communists were attempting to destroy the state army structure.
Maoists captured political power through national and international political maneuvering without defeating the army in a 10-year people’s war.
In an embarrassing video take, Prachanda revealed the party’s game-plan to infiltrate Nepal Army by integration in units to incite a rebellion.

Nepal Rashtra Bank takes over BoK

Kathmandu, 20 May: Nepal Rashtra Bank Tuesday intervened Tuesday to takeover the management of Bank of Kathmandu (BoK).
“We decided to takeover management by allowing the incumbent acting chief executive to work,” the central bank’s board of directors member Sambhusharam Prashad Khayastha told Nepal Patrika after a meeting Tuesday.
The board also decided to form a separate managing committee for the commercial bank dissolving the present committee.
The central bank took over management because of differences in the of BoK managing committee.
Earlier, the bank BoK management had removed managing director Radesh Pant.
