More details on political standoff

Kathmandu, 2 May: Main opposition Nepali Congress decided Saturday to mobilize all party bodies to oppose Maoist threat to oust Army Chief Gen Rukmangud Katawal which is an attempt to impose dictatorship, the party concluded.
The party decided to intensify negotiations CPN-UML, MJF and other parties to isolate Maoists and prevent the dismissal of Gen Katawal.
CPN-UML and MJF, two biggest coalition partners of Maoists in government, have sided with the Congress to support Gen Katawal who the two parties said should be sacked only through consensus.
Congress already has the support of 17 parties in parliament.
Maoist threat to quit government is only a threat, Congress leaders also concluded.
Maoists could be in a minority in the 601-member parliament if the coalition headed by Congress develops.
Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai confirmed Friday the party and government are being pressurized by foreign powers to act cautiously.
“Why should any decision made here shake Delhi, Washington DC or Beijing?
“We are ready to fight with regional as well as world superpower if they continue interfering in our internal affairs.
“We will not tolerate any kind of international interference,” The Kathmandu Post quoted Bhattarai as saying.
PM Prachanda’s official China was aborted amid reports of a military coup.
