President staged constitutional coup :Maoists
By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 4 May: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav staged a ‘constitutional coup’ by asking Army Chief Gen Rukmangud Katawal to continue in office after being unilaterally ousted by Maoists, party spokesman Krishna Bahadur Mahara said Monday.
Mahara, who is also communications minister, said this after a Maoist secretariat meeting.
The party will oppose the presidential action in parliament and street, he said.
But main opposition Nepali Congress central committee meeting Monday supported the presidential decision and also decided to ask Prime Minister Prachanda to resign saying the Maoist-led government was now in minority after major coalition partners withdrew from government.
Nepali Congress has started moves to form an alternate government with CPN-UML.
