India wants good relations with Maoists in opposition: Sood

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 15 June: India, which had good relations with Nepali Congress in opposition, wants similar relations with Maoists now out of government, Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood said.
“Nepali Congress is a part of the government; yesterday it was in the opposition. India’s relations with NC remained good in both periods.
“I hope we will also have a similar situation with the Maoists,” Sood told The Kathmandu Post in an interview published Monday.
“… the breakdown of the Maoist-led coalition brought them into a minority. And that is why Prime Minister Prachanda decided to resign,” Sood added.
Sood’s call for good relations with Maoists comes at a time when the UCPN (Maoist) has been charging foreign powers and parties for toppling the nine-month Prachanda government in a presidential military coup.
The peace process and politics of understanding have suffered.
