Six Indian pilgrims die in Tibet

Kathmandu, 11 June: Nepali tourism industry sources have asked Indian pilgrims to be cautious after six Indian pilgrims died recently in Kailash Mansarovar, Tibet, of altitude sickness, not because of starvation..
Nepal has become a transit point for thousands of Indian Hindu pilgrims going to Kailash Mountain for pilgrimage.
Kailash is situated at 4,556 meters or 14,945 ft.
Major entry points are through Kodari and Hilsa in Nepalese side; Kailash is approximately 800 km from Kodari.
”Acclimation is considered as the best and most effective precaution to avoid such sad situation,” sources advised.
Industry sources recommended pilgrims spend a few days in Nepalese pilgrimage sites like Muktinath and Gosaikunda situated in higher altitude before proceeding to Kailash in Tibet.
