British Gurkhas strength being reduced

Kathmandu, 15 July: In an effort to reduce defence spending, British government is considering reductions in a battalion with 800 Gurkha soldiers, Rajdhani reports quoting The Mirror of London.
Government is considering reducing the defence budget by 35 million pounds sterling.
The Mirror reports Gurkhas have been targeted in any reduction plan.
Government has prioritized the reduction in Gurkha strength after the Nepali troops got treatment equal with Commonwealth troops.
Nearly 3,500 Gurkhas are attached with two battalions.

Defence minister Bhandari visiting India

Kathmandu, 15 July: Defence Minister Bidya Bhandri is visiting India from 20 July at the invitation of her counterpart AK Anthony, Nagarik reports.
Sources said she will discuss military assistance during the visit.
:Army headquarters has suggested the government should prepare an agenda for discussions before the visit,” the source said.
