One killed in Saptari police firing
Kathmandu, 17 July: One person was shot dead in police firing at a border villager Friday in Saptari where a police outpost was surrounded after a vehicle transporting fertilizers was intercepted.
Police said the vehicle was transporting fertilizer smuggled from India.
An indefinite curfew has been slapped in the area.

France has accepted appointed appointment of Surendra Kumar Karki

Kathmandu, 17 July: French embassy denied a published report it had rejected the Maoist appointment of party activist Surendra Kumar Karki as ambassador to France.
“Karki is very welcome in France unless the Nepalese government decides to take back its previous appointment, for which a diplomatic process has to be followed,” the embassy reminded adding the appointment was accepted through a note verbal to the foreign ministry.
The successor government of Madhav Kumar Nepal could withdraw the appointment, the French embassy clarification noted.
Nepalese embassy in Paris is without an ambassador for three years.
:”This situation affects the international and bilateral relations between our two countries,” the embassy said.
France rejected the previous appointment of Phampa Bhusal, top woman Maoist leader.
Ruling parties are haggling on appointing party supporters to major capitals, including Washington and New Delhi.
