Talks are being held with minister of state for health Khadga Bahadur Basyal and health officials at the ministry.

Visa restriction to curb refugee arrival.

Kathmandu, 4 Sept: Except for official purposes, the government has stopped issuing visa on arrival to nationals of 11 countries, The Kathmandu Post reports.
This measure has apparently been necessiated after the number of asylum seekers surged to in recent days.
Besides Bhutanese and Tibetan refugees Nepal is fast emerging as a haven for asylum seekers from a dozen countries.
“Most asylum seekers are from countries where political repression is rampant, Lured by prospects of third country settlement, Nepal has become a favoured transit country for most refugees and asylum seekers
“We lack the capacity to host a huge number of refugees here. Therefore, we have advised UNHCR to limit its recommendations for granting of refugee status,” Basanta Raj Bhatarai, under secretary at the Home Ministry said.
According to the home ministry, around 300 nationals from countries like Nigeria, Ethiopia, Somalia, Liberia, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran have sought asylum and refugee status through the United Nations High Commissioner in Kathmandu.
An additional 2,500 Tibetans have applied for asylum and refugee status.
