Main constitution drafting committee adjourned
Kathmandu, 11 Oct: The main constitution drafting committee meeting chaired by Nilambar Acharya and attended by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal was adjourned until Monday.
The meeting was adjourned at the request of members to iron out differences.
Even after one month, a sub-committee couldn’t even agree of a name for the constitution for which there were seven suggestions.
Major political parties differ on fundamentals to be incorporated in the constitution which has to be drafted by 28 May 2010.
Time is running out.
The present political players drafted the 1990 constitution promulgated by King Birendra who nominated two persons to a committee that drafted the basis law.
The present rulers shred the 1990 constitution drafted by them and empowered themselves to draft a new constitution—a rare feat in the world.

Kathmandu, 11 Oct: Altogether 1,908 families have been displaced by floods and landslides in the mid and far-West, Nagarik reports.
Families affected are 10,400.
They are going on empty stomachs.
Floods and landslides claimed 59 lives in the far-West while six have been killed in the mid-West.

Kathmandu, 11 Oct: Indian Maoist leader Sabyasanchi Pandey told BBC Nepal’s Maoists have compromised with capitalists.
“Sometimes there are aberrations in armed movement,” he said charging Nepal’s Maoists have surrendered their weapons to capitalists.

Govt. to give RBB Rs 10 billion
Kathmandu, 11 Oct: Government has agreed in principle to give Rashtriya Banijya Bank (BRR) Rs 10 billion to increase its paid-up capital, Nagarik reports.
The money is being given at the suggestion of a high-level financial reform committee of which the finance minister is the coordinator.
