Prachanda says Maoists have prepared their own resolution
By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 6 Oct: Chairman Prachanda said Maoists have drafted their own parliamentary resolution which they call a censure motion against President Dr Ram Baran Yadav proposal for an outlet to the current four-month political deadlock.
The proposal will be presented to leaders of two other parties—ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML-- for discussion and approval.
He said in the capital Tuesday Maoists have rejected a parliamentary resolution prepared by Nepali Congress and CPN-UML to be discussed in Wednesday’s session of parliament.
The resolution only refers to the events that led President Dr Yadav to intervene on behalf of 18 political parties to ask Army Chief Gen Rukmangud Katawal to continue in office even after being sacked by the Prachanda government.
Maoist-led government was eventually ousted from government by majority vote in parliament after nine months in office.
Maoists said a ceremonial president acted illegally to retain the army chief who has now retired.
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal again said Tuesday in Pokhara a censure motion of Maoists against the president can’t be discussed in parliament and asked them to introduce an impeachment motion instead.
Such a motion will be defeated by a narrow vote as Maoists don’t have a parliamentary majority.
