Girija, Prachanda meet in Singapore

Kathmandu, 17 Nov: Ailing Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala and Maoist Chairman Prachandal held political discussions at a Singapore hospital Tuesday.
Initial reports said they agreed to form a high-level political mechanism to break a six-month political impasse.
Controversial Indian government operative Prof S.D. Muni brokered the meet, Nagarik and Dhristi reported Tuesday.
There was no agreement to form such a mechanism before in repeated talks in Nepal.
Maoists in talks with Nepali Congress in the capital Tuesday rejected a request to approve the annual budget 20009/10.
Maoists demanded a package solution to the deadlock, including the formation of a national government led by Maoists, Dr Baburam Bhattarai said after the meeting.
Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said the budget will be approved through ordinance with continued Maoist disruption of parliament.


Army chief visiting India

Kathmandu, 17 Nov: Army Chief Gen Chatraman Singh Gurung will be visiting India for nine days beginning 11 December, Dhristi reports.
He will be the chief guest at a passing out parade at the Indian Military Academy in Dehra Dun.
He is being appointed honourary general of the Indian army.
