Bhattarai conducted his anti-panchayat from inside the country and didn’t go into self-exile in India like others.
He was appointed prime minister after the ouster of the panchayat in 1990 and within one year successfully handled the transition from a partyless form of government to multi-party democracy.
He conducted parliamentary elections after drafting a constitution.
