Maoists urge six-month extension of UNMIM mandate

Kathmandu, 31 Dec.: Maoists Thursday urged a six-month extension as in he past of UNMIN’s mandate which ends 23 January.
Maoists said UNMIN should stay until the peace process is completed and a constitution is drafted by28 May 28 May 2010.
Maoist Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai said this after a meeting with UNMIN Chief Karim Landgren.
Government has decided to extend the mandate only for four months this time by formally notifying UN in New York.

Capital receives first winter shower

Kathmandu, 31 Dec.: The capital Thursday night received its first winter shower—only a short drizzle though.
Snowfall has been reported from the hills for two continuous days Thursday and Friday.
One person died in a cold wave in Nawalparasi.

Govt. watching INGO activities

Kathmandu, 31 Dec.: Government is making it compulsory for INGOs and NGOs to open accounts only in government banks, Annapurna Post reports.
Ministries of finance and social welfare and making preparations.
The accounts can be opened only on recommendation of the auditor general’s office.
The accounts can be opened at Nepal Rashtra Bank, Nepal Bank Ltd., Rashtriya Banijya Bank and Agriculture Development Bank.
The organizations can’t have accounts in private banks.
