Maoists pressure inclusion of notes of dissent
By Bhola B Rana
Kahmandu, 4 Jan.: Chairman of the main constitution Nilambar Acharya under pressure from main opposition Maoists Monday relented and included their notes of dissent on nine topics for inclusion on the committee’s concept paper it developed even after a vote last week.
Acharya is submitting the concept to CA Chairman Subash Nemwang later Monday.
Nemwang had refused earlier to include the notes after last week’s vote.
Most Maoist suggestions for topics to be included in a constitution to be promulgated 28 May 2010 were rejected by a majority vote in the 65-member committee first headed by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
The committee rejected Maoist suggestions for changing the unique two triangular national flag.
Voting was held on l98 subjects.
Major parties differ on fundamentals to be included in a constitution raising fears and doubts whether the constitution will be promulgated by the deadline.
The tenure of the assembly also ends mid-May amid charges of conspiracy ruling parties Congress and UML are conspiring to extend the tenure for one year after the expiry of the deadline.
There’s no such provision in the interim constitution.
Two subject committees haven’t also submitted their recommendations for articles in the constitution even after change of schedule eight times.
