Crucial winter session begins

Kathmandu, 4 April: The winter session of parliament meets later Sunday amid Maoist threats to brig a no-trust motion against the 10-month-–old government of beleaguered Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Nepal’s UML parliamentary party hurriedly called off a meeting convened Sunday after more than 70 lawmakers of the party demanded Nepal resign to form a national government with Maoists to complete the peace process and promulgate a constitution by the 28 May deadline.
The winter session meets in the midst of summer.
Government is presenting a supplementary in the session.
The government is also bringing a bill to establish a truth and reconciliation like in South Africa after the end of white-dominated apartheid regime.
The prime minister Sunday held consultations with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and briefed him on current issues, including his efforts to same his government by consulting political party leaders.
“The chairman [Jhalanath Khanal] has made known his views. His words are the final word in the party,” Nepal told reporters when quizzed by reporters on calls in the party for his resignation.

Special committee on integration, rehabilitation, supervision meets

Kathmandu, 4 April: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has convened a meeting of the special committee on the integration, rehabilitation and supervision of Maoist combatants Sunday.
A technical committee under it will submit suggestions for the voluntary
rehabilitation of 19,000 plus former combatants.
The suggestions were asked by the special committee headed by the prime minister.
Maoists have demanded two million rupees or land as a golden handshake to leave 28 cantonments and satellite camps technically under UNMIN but over which it has no command and control.
Government is not positive to the proposal.
