MJFN Nepal strike, Maoists call nation-wide strike Monday

Kathmandu, 9 April: MJFN strike for the second consecutive day paralyzed life mainly in the eastern and central terai districts Friday.
The party is demanding implementation of two accords with government- a 22-point and eight point regional terai demands.
Several vehicles were damaged as they defied the strike call.
Maoists have also called a nation-wide strike Monday protesting a cabinet decision to award a contract without tender to an Indian government security press to print machine readable passports.
Maoists took the decision Thursday at a meeting held at Chairman Prachanda’s residence.
The meeting also decided to protest the government decision in parliament as well to force the government to retract its decision.
Parliament’s state public accounts committee met for the second day Friday met to decide options after government disregarded its suggestion to award the passport contract only after calling for an international tender.
Lawmakers from the terai spoke on behalf of the government Thursday during the first day’s hearing.
