PN Nepal addressed SAARC summit

Kathmandu, 28 April: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal Wednesday addressed the 16th SAATC summit in Thimpu, Bhutan, Wednesday.
The eight-nation South Asian regional organization is also marking the silver jubilee celebrations of its founding.
Nepal highlighted the impact of climate change and fighting regional poverty in his address.

Govt. to discuss common approach to Maoist mass mobilization

Kathmandu, 28 April: A meeting of the 22-party ruling coalition is being held Thursday to develop a common approach to the mass mobilization of hundreds of armed youth in the capital and other urban areas Saturday coinciding with May Day and an indefinite nation-wide strike the following day.
The decision was made at a meeting of leaders of Nepali Congress and UML, the two leading members of the coalition that toppled the Maoist-led government of Prime Minister Prachanda 11 months ago.
Maoists shave mobilized activists to topple the government of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and replace it with another led by it.
The mass mobilization has heightened fears of a bloody clash on the streets as government put all security agencies on high alert even threatening to mobilize Nepal Army.

Nepal, US defence cooperation discussed


Kathmandu, 28 April: Army Chief Gen Chatraman Singh Gurung Wednesday discussed continued US military assistance to Nepal Army with visiting US Navy Admiral Robert F. Willard.
They also discussed human assistance to the state army under US foreign military financing, the army headquarters said.
They discussed help, including supply of vehicles to the Nepali peacekeeping contingent in Dafur, Sudan.
They discussed further development of military assistance.
The visiting admiral held separate discussions with Defence Minister Bidya Bhandari and Home Minister Bhim Rawal.

New British ambassador

Kathmandu, 28 April: John Anthony Tucknott has been appointed new British Ambassador to Nepal, the British embassy said.
He replaces Dr Andrew Hall.
