SAARC summit begins in Thimpu Wednesday
Kathmandu, 28 April: A two-day 16th summit of the eight-nation SAARC begins in Thimpu Wednesday.
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is heading the 25-member Nepali delegation to the summit of South Asian nations.
Bhutan is hosting the annual summit for the first time.

President hosts reception for first time
Kathmandu, 28 April: Amid an emerging political crisis, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav held a reception for leaders of major political parties Tuesday and asked them to forge an understanding to break a prolonged deadlock, participants said.
Maoists boycotted the reception.
A crisis is brewing as a deadline to promulgate a constitution by the May 28 deadline won’t be met.
Maoists have mobilized hundreds of thousands of youth and trained them to handle sticks and khukris for a May Day rally in urban areas, including lthe capital, to press for a constitution and a national government under its leadership.
Fearing violence, government has put all security agencies on high alert.
Maoists have called a nation-wide strike after 1 May to press their demands for the ouster of the government of beleaguered Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Appa Sherpa appointed goodwill ambassador for environment for SAARC
Kathmandu, 28 April: Appa Sherpa, who has climbed the 8848 meters high Mount Everest for a record 19 times was declared SAARC’s goodwill ambassador of the South Asian in Thimpu Tuesday.
The grouping’s 16th summit begins Wednesday.
The effects of climate change is a major topic of discussion at the summit.
