Ananda Prasad Dhungana breaks death fast
Kathmandu, 11 May: Former Nepali Congress lawmaker and chief whip Ananda Prasad Dhungana broke a death fast Tuesday four days after its launch in Dhanusha.
He started the fast alleging irregularities in the distribution of active party membership fraud ahead of the party general convention in August to elect a new leadership following the death of President Girija Prasad Koirala.
Dhungana is a Koirala loyalist.
Central committee member Dr Shekhar Koirala was present when Dhungana broke his fast.
He charged General Secretary Bimalendra Nidhi, who is close to Sher Bahadur Deuba, for alleged irregularities.
The Nepali Congress is still split between the Koirala and the Nepali Congress (Democratic) led by Dueba even after formal unification.

Gupta group of NSP receives recognition
Kathmandu, 11 May: The Nepal Sadbavana Party (NSP) led by Shyam Sundar Gupta received recognition as the original party from the Election Commission Monday.
Acting Chief Commissioner Nil Kantha Upadhaya and Commissioners Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav and Dolakh Bahadur Gurung have the verdict on supreme court order.
The party was split the Gupta, Ananda Debi and Sarita Giri factions.
The party is represented in government by Supplies Minister Rajendra Mahoto.

Chief justice says appointments to constitutional bodies not flawed
Kathmandu, 11 May: Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha, who is an ex-officio member of the constitutional council, said in a written statement to the apex court Monday to dismiss a writ challenging the legality of appointments to vacant constitutional bodies 23 April.
Main opposition leader Chairman Prachanda, who is also ex-officio member of the council headed y the prime minister, challenged the appointments claiming he wasn’t notified of the meeting 48 hours in advance.
Shrestha said he receive the notification 48 hours ahead of the meeting.
The council appointed chiefs of several constitutional bodies, including the election commission and the CIAA.

Govt. extending CA tenure with 8th amendment to interim constitution
Kathmandu, 11 May: Government is preparing to extend the tenure of the constituent assembly (CA) by next week in parliament even without an agreement with UCPN (Maoist), Nagarik reports.
A source at the Prime Minister’s Office said an eighth amendment bill to the interim constitution is being registered in parliament within 17 May.
The two-year tenure of the CA ends 28 May.
Government hasn’t decided on the time of tenure extension.
Nepali Congress General Secretary Bimalendra Nidhi Monday disclosed in the capital UCPN (Maoist) had proposed the extension at a meeting of the three-party high level political mechanism before the death of Girija Prasad Koirala.
Chairma Prachanda spoke out publicly against the extension.
