Maoist seize of streets continues for fifth day
Kathmandu, 6 May: Maoist nation-wide crippling seize of streets blocking the movement of people and vehicles continued for the fifth consecutive day Thursday.
The seizure has closed down factories, businesses, schools, banks and other sectors mainly in the urban areas.
Maoist standing committee is meeting Thursday to review the anti-government strike to press the formation of a national government under the main opposition.
Tourist arrivals have plummeted 75 percent to around 500 plus arrivals since the strike, tourism officials.
Maoists have now taken to the streets after they joined eight political parties to sign a 12-point comprehensive peace agreement in New Delhi four years ago—an agreement that led to the ousting of the 238-year-old monarchy.

UNMIN mandate extended only for four months
Kathmandu, 6 May: Following international pressure, government Wednesday extended the UNMIN mandate only for four months until 15 September.
The foreign ministry said this Wednesday.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in a report to the security council complained the world body had not received any formal communication from the government on its future until the writing of the Nepal report.
The terms of the mandate remains the same despite calls from Nepali Congress Nepal Army should be taken off the UN observation.
The integration and resettlement of former Maoist combatants that sould have been completed in six months hasn’t been completed eveninl three years.
