Maoists launch indefinite strike
Kathmandu, 2 May: Main opposition Maoists launched an indefinite nation-wide strike Sunday morning calling for the ouster of the Mahdav Kumat Nepal government and its replacement by a national government under its leadership.
Hundreds of thousands of activists came out on the streets in the capital and other urban centers elsewhere and blocked the movement of vehicles and people.
A late-night effort Saturday night by the three main parties to find an outlet to a political deadlock was futile.
Maoists, Nepali Congress and UML couldn’t agree is six identified issues.
The strike closed down businesses, industries and schools nation-wide.
Interference by Maoist students disturbed the higher secondary level examinations nation-wide.
Premier Nepal reminded Maoists in a national address Saturday therewas a parliamentary procedure for parliamentary change.
