Rs 40m destroyed in Sitangol fire
Kathmandu, 19 May: Property estimated at Rs 40 million was destroyed overnight at a fire in Sitangol in the capital.
A foam and wire factory were completely destroyed.
Firefighters from the capital, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur extinguished the fire.

One killed in Birgunj firing
Kathmandu, 19 May: One person was killed overnight in an exchange of fir between police and a suspected Indian criminal gang in Birgunj.
Two others escaped.
Pashupai Debi Shah, 50, was injured Tuesday in a bomb blast at Kalaiya in Bara.

Former AFP chief dead
Kathmandu, 19 May: Former IGP of Armed Police Force (AFP) Sahabir Thapa, 61, died Tuesday at a hospital in the capital while undergoing cancer treatment.
He left behind a wife, two sons and a daughter.
He was APF from 2003 to 2006 during the Maoist insurgency.
Government launched the APF to fight the insurgency without mobilizing Royal Nepal Army after the rebels decimated Nepal Police.
Thapa joined Nepal Police as a sub-inspector in 1963.

Former king visiting Nepalgunj
Kathmandu, 19 May: Former King Gyanendra will visit Nepalgunj Sunday where he will offer puja at Bageshwori temple.
He will also interact with people in the far-West town.
The former king earlier paid a similar visit to Janakpur.

Controversial Norwegian minister coming
Kathmandu, 19 May: Controversial Norwegian Minister for Environment and International Development Erik Solheim arrives Saturday for a one-day visit.
Solheim maintained direct links with Maoists when thy were declared terrorists by Nepal and India.
He will be visiting Nepal for the fourth time at a time when the country is heading towards a crisis with the failure to promulgate a constitution by 28 to institutionalize a republic,
The minister has excellent working relationship with Maoists.

92 persons scale Everest
Kathmandu, 19May: Altogether 92 climbers scaled the 8848meters high Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak, Monday.
Fifty Nepalis and 42 foreigners stood atop the peak in a clear day.
