Maoists claim leadership of govt.
Kathmandu, 10 June: A meeting of top leaders of UCPN (Maoist) claimed leadership of a national government Thursday.
This was revealed by Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha after the meet at Chairman Prachanda’s residence.
Nepali Congress has also been claiming leadership of the proposed government to replace the one-year-old government of embattled Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Maoists say there was agreement Nepal would resign in five days to make way for a national unity government after the 28 May extension of the constituent assembly (CA) following a three-point tripartite agreement.
NC and UML denied such an agreement and said Nepal’s resignation will come with the simultaneous implementation of points 1 and 3 of the deal for a package implementation.
Shrestha said the main opposition didn’t discuss Thursday a consensus document on modalities, objectives and programmes of a future government prepared by NC and UML.
Shrestha said the party hadn’t received the document from the two ruling parties.
