Prachanda reveals 3 parties also agreed to PM Nepal’s resignation

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 4 June: Maoist Chairman Prachanda said he and UML leader KP Sharma Oli reached an agreement last week Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal would resign in five days.
He revealed there was also an agreement between three parties as well even as ruling parties deny it.
“It takes a long time to complete the peace process. It can’t be concluded in five days. There was an agreement first between Oliji and me and then between three parties to resign in five days,” the Maoist strongman told Annapurna Post in an interview Friday.
He said there’s no link between the resignation and understanding for the peace process and constitution drafting.
“The issues are separate.”
Maoists haven’t abandoned claim to the leadership of a national government, Prachanda said.
“.. Maoists haven’t abandoned their claim to the leadership [of national unity government]. It’s not that Maoists have left the claim to the leadership of the government under chairman,” he added in reply to a question whether it’s true the main opposition is open to an alternate to a national unity government.
A government must be formed under Maoist leadership, Prachanda asserted in reply to a question if a national government could be formed under NC.
“If the peace process is to be concluded by going for understanding, a government should be formed under Maoist leadership; it can’t be formed under leadership of others,” the main opposition chief said.
He revealed the party’s forthcoming standing committee meet will finalize details of anti-government protests following the public resurrection of differences between ruling parties and UCPN (Maoist).

“The OHCHR, in its lengthy observation report, said that the Maoist People’s Liberation Army (PLA) members from cantonment sites were verified as having engaged in the protest programmes [from 1 to 9 May] in an organized manner.

(Report in The Rising Nepal, 4 June)

‘Plagued by internal divisions, the UML and the NC are unable to rejuvenate themselves at the grassroots. Lacking the capacity to fight the Maoists politically, they have taken to lobbying with the Indian government and the old security establishment as a means of strengthening themselves. None of this is going to help.)
