President asks council of ministers to continue; other details on Nepal resignation

Kathmandu, 30 June: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav Wednesday asked the council of ministers to continue until the formation of a new government team following the resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal ‘with immediate effect.
Nepal held his last consultative meeting with ted ruling coalition party leaders before be went on the air announcing he was quitting in a nationally televised address.
The government chief said he attempted for one month to form a national unity government by consulting political parties, including Maoists, but got no response.
He accused the main opposition of extortion, threats and renegading on a promise to bring the 19,000 plus former Maoist combatants under the special committee headed by the government chief.
Nepal wished the successor government success in drafting a constitution to institutionalize a republic which has already been declared while hoping the delayed peace process will be completed.
