Still no firm date for parliament session

Kathmandu, 9 June: A firm date for the annual budget session that was to begin Tuesday hasn’t been fixed as yet.
Government, after consulting Speaker Subash Nemwang, said a new date will be set after consulting political parties.
Embattled Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal whose resignation has been demanded by main opposition Maoists before a national unity government is formed.
Maoists last year obstructed parliamentary proceedings last year as well after Prachanda resigned nine months after his appointment.
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav was scheduled to government’s policy and programmes in parliament Monday.

Govt. OHCHR-N pact Wednesday

Kathmandu, 9 June: Nepal is signing an agreement Wednesday in Geneva extending a reduced and limited mandate on the Office of the High Commission for Human Rights-Nepal (OHCHR-N) by one year.
Nepali Ambassador to UN Permanent Mission in Geneva Durga Bhattarai is signing the document on behalf of the government.
The pact was extended after pressures from western countries.
Ruling Nepali Congress demanded the UN body that came to Nepal five years ago be sent back.

Dr Bhaktaman Shrestha retracts claim

Kathmandu, 9 June: Dr Bhaktaman Shrestha, Executive Director of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur retracted his claim a Hindu organization abducted him.
He withdrew his original claim in an exclusive interview with a television channel Tuesday evening.
The doctor was released 19 days after his abduction.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Bhim Rawal said the abduction was for financial reasons.
“Be it the murders of media entrepreneurs Jamin Shah snd Arun Singhniya, or be it the case of Dr Bhaktaman Shresths’s abduction, the crime was committed over financial dealings,” Rawal said.
The cancer is linked with Maoists.
