Three parties agree to begin constitution drafting process
Kathmandu, 23 June: Maoists, NC and UML Wednesday agreed to begin drafting a constitution at a joint meeting with Chairman Subash Nemwang,
‘The draft will be prepared through consensus,” Nemwang said after the meet.
The three biggest parties will prepare a new schedule to prepare a constitution through internal discussions.
Past differences on issues will be narrowed and sent to the main constitution drafting committee chaired by Nilambar Acharya for preparation of a draft.
The two-year elected mandate of the constituent to prepare a basic law ended 28 May 2010 but the three parties bought time to prepare it in another year.
The parties met for the first time after 28 May extension.
Chairman Prachanda, NC Vice-chairman Ram Chandra Paudel and UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal led the teams of the respective parties at Wednesday’s talks.
