French serial killer sentenced to life term

Kathmandu, 30 July: French serial killer Charles Shobraj, 66, laws sentenced to life imprisonment with the confiscation of his property by two-judge bench of the supreme court Friday.
The apex court upheld the verdict of the Patan appellate court seven years ago.
Fifteen days ago the court deferred a final decision .asking for time to prepare a full verdict.
The Patan court sentenced Shobraj for the murder of American backpacker Connie Joe Bronzich in 1975 at he height of the hippie movement when hundreds of young westerns were attracted to Nepal by cheap and legal drugs.
Shobraj was arrested in 2003 when he boldly slipped into the country even as he was convicted to 20-year life sentence by the Kathmandu district court.
Lawyers for Shobraj attempted to seek a postpone on a final verdict.
Another murder charge has been registered at the Bhaktapur court against Shobraj for the murder Canadian tourist.
The Frenchman was linked to serial killings of tourists in Bangkok and India.

Kathmandu, 30 July: One of India’s states worst-hit by Maoist violence has offered more than 2,000 dollars to each rebel who surrenders their weapons and gives up the fight, police said on Thursday, a AFP report from Kolkata said.
The state government in West Bengal has promised a bank account with a deposit of 100,000 rupees as well as job training and employment opportunities.
