Govt. again raps UNMIN with protest letter

Kathmandu, 10 July: Nepal is protesting through letter to UNMIN saying its suggestion to complete integration in 15 months was unacceptable and unwanted.
“Meanwhile, a source at the special committee [on army integration, resettlement and supervision headed by the prime minister] told Republica that the government is lodging its objection with the UNMIN for having prepared a plan for management of the combatants, reports the newspaper in its Saturday editions.
“We drafted a protest letter on Friday but could not send it because the prime minister could not go through it. Once he approves the letter, we will send it,” the source at the special committee said on condition of anonymity.
In the draft letter, the government is going to remind UNMIN that under the interim constitution the special committee is solely responsible for planning such integration and rehabilitation.
Talking to media at the hospital the prime minister [Friday] urged the UN body not to ‘impose any unwanted suggestion’ on Nepal, saying such a suggestion is unacceptable.
The prime minister was of the view that nay proposal that intents to complete management of the combatants in 15 months [60 weeks] cannot be acceptable as the constituent assembly term is expiring in less than 11 months.
‘This will only help render the statute-writing process itself a failure. We don’t need experience which couldn’t be implemented in any other part of the world,” he said.

President’s China visit under cloud

Kathmandu, 10 July: After the resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, the proposed China visit of the president and the Nepal-China bilateral border technical committee meeting are uncertain, Kantipur reports.
The fourth border master plan can’t be signed without the committee meeting.
The president was expected to participate at a special Nepal Day programme 3 Sept. in the Shanghai Expo.
