Two shot dead in continuing terai violence

Kathmandu, 8 July: A worker was shot dead at Purusottampur in Kapilvasthu, Kapilvasthu, overnight allegedly for spying on behalf of the government.

UML activist and liquor trader RaamBriksha Raya Amatya was shot dead at Duhabi chowk in Janakpur Wednesday.
Janakpur and Birgunj are the terai towns terai where the highest incidences of shootings have been reported as the insurgency in the south bordering India spirals.
Nobody was injured in a powerful cylinder bomb blast Wednesday in front of the house of industrialists Sanjaya Goyel and Binaya Goyel in Bhadrapur, Jhapa.

Abductors of Dr Bhaktaman being made public Thursday

Kathmandu, 8 July: Police will make public a report on the kidnapping of Dr Bhaktaman Shrestha Thursday, Republica reports.
Dr Shrestha, the executive director of BP Koirala Memorial Hospital Chitwan, was released on June5 after 19 days in captivity.
It has been learnt that besides the report, Nepal Police will make public two members of the gang that kidnapped Dr.Shrestha on May 18.
The gang leader is still at large.
Police sources said the report mentions that Dr Shrestha was kidnapped by a criminal gang that had conducted over half a dozen kidnappings in the past.
The leader, whose name will be made public through the report, was arrested on a kidnapping charge a few years ago but later released by the court.
Though Dr Shrestha had initially claimed after his release that no ransom was demanded, it was alter revealed that his family had paid 4 kg gold worth Rs 12 million.

Investigators had narrowed down eight persons as major suspects, two of whom were the ones that fell in the police net, sources said. Some of the suspects are known to have political connections.
