Army drive to fill in 3,464 vacancies

Kathmandu, 2 Aug.: Nepal Army (NA) Monday advertised to fill in 3,464 vacancies following a go-ahead last week by the supreme court.
Altogether 250 officers and 3,214 other personnel are being recruited.
Recruitment in the infantry was suspended December 2008.
Maoists claim the recruitment violates a comprehensive peace agreement between government and Maoists.
The NA says recruitment is only to fill in vacancies and isn’t an expansion of state army.
The provisions of the peace agreement to be implemented in six months haven’t been implemented evening three years.
