There were no survivors.
The aircraft was returning to Kathmandu from Lukla where the plane couldn’t land in bad weather.

Kathmandu, 23 Aug; At least 20 houses in Rajapur area of Bardiya have been submerged and five VDCs exposed to the risk of floods after raging Karnali River saw an alarming rise in water level following incessant downpour for the last three days, the Himalayan Times reports from Nepalgunj..

The river inundated 20 houses in Wards No 6 and 9 of Daulatpur VDC and threatened to breach the embankment in Rajapur, Chhediya.

According to Bardiya SP Surya Prasad Upadhyaya, security personnel from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the Nepali Army have been drafted for putting sacks with boulders and sand to reinforce the

embankment.

With an increase in water-level, steamer service in the Geruwa River in Kothiyaghat has been halted.

Arjun Subedi, chief of the Area Administration Office, Rajapur, said the administration was on high alert to protect locals from flood threat. The area lies between Bheri and Karnali rivers that have eroded fertile land in Manau, Khairichandanpur, Doulatpur, Rajapur, Neulapur and Baganaha. Meanwhile, Tilak Khadka (50) of Motipur, Asneri, was found dead in the Karnali River today. According to police, he was swept away by the flood yesterday.

In Banke, Khachaida and Piprahawa villages in Holiya VDC have been submerged with raging Rapti breaching its course. According to Banke police, at least 20 families have been shifted to safer areas.

Most of the flights from Nepalgunj were disrupted today due to unfavourable weather conditions.

Koshi crosses danger mark

ITAHARI: Water level in the Koshi River has been rising following incessant downpour in the past few days. The water level in the river has crossed the danger mark. The flow of water in Koshi on Monday was 245,740 cusec, with about 100,000 cusec flowing above the danger mark. The authorities have sounded flood alert. As of Sunday, 217,000 cusec of water was flowing in Koshi. Dramatic increase in the water flow has been attributed to torrential rainfall. Some years ago in mid-August, the Koshi River had wreaked havoc with 168,000 cusec water flow. The raging river has already swept away 15 bighas of land in Jaljala area of Mahendranagar VDC, which falls in Sri Lanka Tapu. Local Kalu Chaudhari’s family was displaced after the river swept their house away.
