Prachanda political report challenged
Kathmandu, 25 Aug.: The political report presented by Chairman Prachanda at the delayed central committee meeting Wednesday was challenged by two vice-chairmen Wednesday.
Vice-chairmen Mohan Kiran Baidya and Baburam Bhattarai presented separate proposals for approval as well amid a political standoff in the election for prime minister.
Prachanda is the candidate for prime minister to succeed Caretaker Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal’ he’s challenged by NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel.
Prachanda has called for an anti-government movement in parliament and the street while even urging another revolution, party sources said.
Bhattarai urged a peaceful movement while retaining an option for a revolution.
Hardliner Baidya has been urging an immediate revolution for a people’s republic amid the stand off when the peace process has hit a roadblock and virtually no progress has been made in drafting a constitution to institutionalize a republic..
The differing proposals reflect a division in the main opposition party.
