GOVT. BUYS 42.2b worth IC

Kathmandu, 14 Sept.: Widening trade deficit with India is burning the foreign exchange currency reserve, The Himalayan Times reports.
The central bank purchased Indian currency equal to 102.1 billion selling $2.2 billion in the Indian money market, during last fiscal year.
“In 2008/09 Indian currency equal to 73.4 billion was purchased selling $1.5 billion,” said the central bank attributing an accelerated trade deficit with India for the largest amount of Indian currency purchase.
“The gross foreign exchange reserve dropped by seven percent to Rs 266.57 billion in mid-July 21010 from a level of Rs286.54 as at mid-July 2009,” reveals the central bank’s annual data supporting the claim

GOVT. FACES FINANCIAL CRUNCH

Kathmandu, 14 Sept.: The government has requested Nepal Rashtra Bank to issue letter of credit (LC) on credit facility to Oberthru Technologies for receiving the first lot of machine readable passports (MRPs) after budget shortage threatened to affect timely delivery of the high-tech passports, Republica reports.
Ministry of Finance wrote a letter to this connection to the central bank Monday after French-based security printer sought payment assurance for delivering the first lot of MRPs.
