Maoists to withdraw candidacy if election is inconclusive

Kathmandu, 5 Sept.: A meeting of Maoist office bearers Sunday decided to withdraw the candidacy of Chairman Prachanda as prime minister if the sixth round vote of successor of Madhav Kumar Nepal is inconclusive later in the day.
Maoists will take a decision after consulting other party leaders and leaders of civil society.
Meanwhile, Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood held discussions with PM Nepal hours before the vote.

Chinese embassy reaction to Maoist funding

Kathmandu, 5 Sept.: Chinese embassy said Beijing has never interfered in election for prime minister in Nepal.
“China always follows non-interference policy, and has never intervened into PM election of Nepal in any form. The slanderous report about China funding UCPN (Maoist) is totally baseless,” Republica quotes Chinese embassy spokesman Shan Yuduo as saying.
The embassy was reacting to a report Maoists asked Rs 500 million to buy votes in parliament for Chairman Prachanda.

Army preparing to import arms

Kathmandu, 5 Sept.: Nepal Army (NA), lobbying to end the tenure of UNMIN, is preparing to import arms for new recruits for their training, Naya Patrika reports.
Military sources said army is preparing to write to government to import arms.
A letter will be sent to the defence ministry to import modern weapons.
